What is a Prosthodontist?
A prosthodontist is a specially-trained dentist with expertise in treating missing or badly damaged teeth, congenital jaw defects such as cleft palate, TMJ disorder, and conditions such as snoring or sleep apnea. Prosthodontists also perform oral reconstruction to repair damage due to trauma or illness. They are dedicated to restoring function and appearance to your mouth.
At Park Lane Dental Specialists in downtown Halifax, we provide prosthodontics services by referral from dentists all over Atlantic Canada. Take a look at some of the services we offer.
We provide expert consultation and design of dental restorations such as veneers, bridges, dental implants, dentures and crowns to treat and restore missing, damaged or decayed teeth.
Have you been diagnosed with TMJ disorder? We use conservative, non-surgical treatment for TMJ disorder to relieve symptoms and reduce the factors causing inflammation in your jaw. Treatments can include massage, stretching and exercise, and occlusal devices that help guide and align your jaw.
If you have suffered damage to your teeth and jaws as a result of trauma or illness we can provide oral reconstruction to restore your mouth’s function and appearance. Oral reconstruction can be used to repair damage caused by motor vehicle accidents or other injuries or damage caused by illness such as oral cancer.
Did you know that snoring and sleep apnea can be caused by dental health issues? We can diagnose your symptoms to determine if they are being caused by oral health issues and, if necessary, provide you with treatment so you can sleep soundly.
Have you been referred to us because you or your loved one are affected by a congenital defect such as a cleft palate? We will work as part of your care team to provide specialized treatments to repair congenital defects. Prosthodontic treatments can include providing appliances for infants that guide the growth of their jaws and mouth, replacement or repair of any teeth damaged or lost due to the defect, and providing appliances that aid in speech, eating and appearance during and after the treatment process.
