Do you go for regular professional cleanings and hygiene appointments?
Alongside brushing and flossing, regular professional cleaning and scaling forms the first line of defence against gum disease. Because brushing and flossing can’t remove plaque and tartar above the gum line, it’s vital that you go for a professional cleaning at least once a year to ensure that they are properly removed.
In a regular hygiene appointment we’ll scale your teeth with a special tool to remove tartar from your teeth, and then we’ll polish them to remove any plaque or stains from your enamel. We’ll also examine your teeth to detect decay, damage or signs of gum disease or oral cancer. We may also provide fluoride treatment to strengthen your teeth against decay.
Finally we can provide you with education on how changes to your diet and your brushing and hygiene habits can prevent gum disease and decay.
