Description:
Do you go for regular professional cleanings and hygiene appointments? Alongside brushing and flossing, regular professional cleaning and scaling forms the first line of defence against gum disease.
Because brushing and flossing cannot remove plaque and tartar above the gum line, it is vital that you go for a professional cleaning at least once a year to ensure that they are properly removed.
Treatment:
- Brushing
- Flossing
- Scaling
- Fluoride Treatment
- Oral Cancer Screening
- Plaque Removal
- Tartar Removal
- Routine Checkup
- Prevention
- Home Care Education
In a regular hygiene appointment we will scale your teeth with a special tool to remove tartar from your teeth, and then we will polish them to remove any plaque or stains from your enamel.
What Happens During a Hygiene Visit
We will also examine your teeth to detect decay, damage, gum disease, or oral cancer, and may provide fluoride treatment to strengthen your teeth against decay.
Finally, we can provide you with education on how changes to your diet and your brushing and hygiene habits can help prevent gum disease and decay.

Yes, in many cases. Daily brushing and flossing are important, but tartar can still form in hard-to-reach areas. Scaling removes hardened deposits that cannot be removed with a toothbrush or floss alone.
Patients with tartar buildup, bleeding gums, bad breath, staining, a history of gum disease, dental restorations, implants, dentures, or those who want to maintain long-term oral health may benefit from regular hygiene visits.
